Now, let's be honest--Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS) issuing a statement declaring homosexuality to be "immoral" is about as surprising a news item as Paris Hilton issuing a statement that she plans to go to a party and get wasted with her BFFs. The man's whole career is based on his drive to be the most far-right conservative in the room on every issue imaginable, and he's hoping to gain the 2008 GOP nomination on a platform of proto-fascist Christian soldiering. While I consider it an even-money bet that Republican voters would be blind and rabid enough to actually make this Shrieking Eel their champion in the next election, I still have enough faith in ordinary Americans to ultimately reject the idea of becoming a Christian Saudi Arabia.

That said, Senator, if you're going to appear everywhere you can to whip the base ("al-Qaida") into a frenzy of hate and fear about The Gay, then maybe you'd be better off not wearing a FABulous rainbow-colored tie while doing it:

EDIT: Apparently the link has rotted and the photo expunged from the Internet. Too bad. I'm telling you, Carson Kressley would have been proud of this tie.

People are going to start wondering if you're really Sen. Sam Brokeback.

Ahem, Chris Cooper in "American Beauty" anyone?

And I was wondering what was up with that tie...

I actually found his statement refreshing, really, compared to the non-statements issued by every other candidate. I think he's a shithead, but at least he had the honesty to come out and say it instead of dancing around on the "issue."

Also yeah, there's no question anymore that Brownback, much like Fred Phelps, absolutely has to be a repressed homosexual himself. There's really no other explanation.

Not to take the wind out of your sails...
you bring up some very excellent points, and I have not seen any other pictures other than this one, but in my opinion the coloring of the tie is due to some pinstripping creating an optical effect which the camera caught, but which isn't really the case. But again I haven't seen any other pictures.

That's fair, and I had wondered as much. I was mostly being flip at the expense of a man who deserves far more vicious than me being flip.

And, I get to claim him as my very own representative!! Yay! Our Senate seats are lost causes, but at least we've managed to get Dennis Moore in the House.

I have to say I'm curious why no one has yet commented on your soundtrack for this post.

(not that I would comment, because I like that song too)
